About Maithili

BACP Registered Psychotherapist

I’m Maithili (pronounced “mightily”). I am a BACP-registered psychotherapist and a member of BAATN and Pink Therapy, with private practices in London – Harley Street, Mayfair and The City and Surrey – Farnham, Guildford, Godalming and Haslemere.

My background

Alongside my psychotherapy, I’m also an artist and this shapes how I listen and work therapeutically. My commissions are centred on capturing distinct emotional stories, lived experiences and uniqueness. This has strengthened my ability to honour individuality and notice what sits beneath someone’s words. In therapy, this translates into a way of working that is co-creative, responsive and tailored to you – helping you explore and express feelings or experiences that may be hidden, muted or difficult to name, in a way that feels safe for you.

Before training as a therapist, I spent 20 years in psychology within the corporate sector, where I saw first-hand how demanding work environments can affect wellbeing, behaviours and relationships beyond the workplace. Over time, my curiosity about the emotional patterns shaping how we respond to pressure and relate to ourselves and others grew – an exploration that now underpins my therapeutic practice.

My experience and practice

My expertise includes working with complex trauma, anxiety and depression, abuse, self-harm, disordered eating, low self-esteem and life transitions – helping to make sense of experiences and rebuild a sense of safety, coherence and connection. I have worked with clients across a wide range of life transitions and identities, including diverse ages, genders, sexualities, neurotypes, disabilities, cultural backgrounds and relationship preferences.

I have a deep interest in how sexuality and gender identity influences emotional life, in supporting those from minority and marginalised communities alongside helping individuals process experiences of trauma, anxiety and abuse. These areas form a meaningful and significant part of my ongoing practice, academic writing and research. I reserve a limited number of low-cost sessions as part of my commitment to widening access for clients affected by such experiences.

Where fear and possibility meet

Life often brings us to turning points that can stir both fear and possibility, carrying with them a sense of loss alongside the potential for growth. I understand that seeking therapy at such a time can feel daunting. I strive to offer a containing space where we can explore whatever is important to you at a pace that feels right – to grieve, to find meaning in what feels difficult and to move towards a life that feels more rooted, present and your own.

Starting Therapy with Maithili

1

Let’s start with a free 20-minute chat to talk through what brings you to therapy.

I can give you a sense of how we can work together, answer any questions you may have and give you insight into how therapy might work for you.

2

Book a 75-minute initial consultation where we will explore working together.

There is no obligation to commit to further sessions. It is simply a chance to see how we experience each other and if we could be a good fit.

3

If we agree to work together, we’ll arrange ongoing 50-minute sessions in person or online.

We’ll regularly reflect on the evolving process, making any adjustments needed to ensure the therapy continues to support your needs and growth.

Inclusive

I have experience of working with clients of diverse age, gender, sexuality, neurotype, disability, cultural background and relationship preferences.

I value and respect each person’s intersectionality and belief systems, recognising first-hand and with my clients, the crucial and sometimes hidden role they play in shaping identity.

I aim to provide a safe space where identity, difference and the impact of power or powerlessness in your life can be talked about openly.
